Comfort Bags

BCSS offers Berks survivors a Comfort Bag at the time of breast cancer
diagnosis. Designed to provide comfort at a confusing time, the bags include a book, water bottle, soft pink pillow
and other soothing items. Each Comfort Bag is prepared in the BCSS office by volunteers.

Since 2006, more than 4,200 recipients have received a Comfort Bag. Every Comfort Bag delivered means one more person knows that they are loved and cared about by someone who understands what they are going through.

The Fitting Room at BCSS: Wig & Prosthesis Bank

The Fitting Room at BCSS provides survivors and patients undergoing treatment with a wide range of personal comfort items
at no cost that reduce the physical and emotional impact cancer and cancer treatments can have. The Fitting room at
BCSS: Wig and Prosthesis Bank relies on donations from individuals and businesses to stock its shelves to help make
women feel beautiful and self-confident on their journey. Private appointments with a certified fitter can be made
by calling the BCSS office at 610-478-1447.

Lending Library

We have one of Berks County's most extensive libraries of books and videos on breast cancer and related topics.
This library of more than 500 books, CD's, and DVD's is free and open to the public.
Please give us a call in advance and make arrangements to stop in to our office and take a look.

Counseling Assistance Program

A diagnosis of breast cancer is frightening, and it often brings up a wide range of difficult emotions. You may feel anxious, depressed, angry or fearful. Women sometimes struggle with self-image, challenges with intimacy and personal issues. All of these stresses may impact your immune system, digestion, sleep, concentration and personal relationships. The support of a mental health professional may help you cope with the psychological impact of cancer and may be an important aspect of treatment. BCSS also recognizes that those who have breast cancer may be concerned about the well-being of their loved ones.

Who is eligible?

Any individual who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, is in active treatment or in post-treatment and/or their family members/caregivers. The counseling sessions are designed to encompass not only the patient, but those who love him or her.

We are currently limiting funding to individuals living in Berks County.

Survivors Financial Aid Fund

BCSS has a limited amount of funds available to assist Survivors with financial help during treatment. After a breast cancer diagnosis, the financial impact can be devastating. The inability to go to work and provide for one’s family,
paired with medical and practical costs, can result in a financial hardship.

We are pleased to offer our Survivors Financial Aid Fund. The Survivors Aid Fund was designed to ease the financial burden of a breast cancer diagnosis. This is NOT an emergency fund. Our focus is on supporting those that could otherwise make ends meet if not for their diagnosis and treatment.

Breast Cancer Support Services Board of Directors Scholarship

BCSS is offering a Director's Scholarship in the amount of $500 to a resident of Berks County. The applicant's major must be in the healthcare field. The applicant can attend either a technical school, nursing school, college, or university in a two-year or four-year program.
