Leslie Fessler - Ambassador Coordinator

My name is Leslie Fessler. I was diagnosed in August 2014 with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer which metastasized to my lymph nodes and T9 in my spine. I went through aggressive treatment – chemo, radiation, and surgeries. I live on a farm in Berks County with my husband, Mark. We own a cow/calf operation and raise Beef cattle, we farm more than 500 acres. I graduated from Conrad Weiser High School. I am a substitute teacher’s aide in the Weiser School District.

I am a stay at home “grandmother”. I have 3 children (Matthew, Dustin, and Lindsay). My boys are married and I have 2 beautiful granddaughters Kehlani and Allie. They mean the world to me.

I chose to volunteer for BCSS because they helped me through my journey. I was given a comfort bag at the time of diagnosis with lots of helpful items, one telling me I was invited to a newly diagnosed group. This organization let me feel all of the emotions but gave me so much comfort in knowing I was not alone. What inspires me about being a BCSS volunteer is that I come full circle. From being a patient to coming to different meetings, volunteering, being a part of the Community Awareness committee and now taking on the Volunteer Coordinator position. By having this support, it has helped me through my treatments. I now am a SURVIVOR and am able to pay it forward and help others become survivors too.

Fun Facts:
  • Leslie's favorite thing to do to relax is going to the beach and sit by the ocean.
  • Something most people won't know about Leslie is that she milked cows for many years on their farm while her children were growing up.
